The darkest day of the year is upon us this week. Yet no matter what darkness surrounds us, physically or figuratively, the true Light has come among us so that darkness cannot overcome.
I hope that, like John the Witness, we might each bear witness to Jesus the Light, wherever we see him this week. Let us take up the mission and identity of being people who point to Jesus in every moment, shouting out: Look! Here he is! The Light of the world!
Even though Kya and I are down in Texas this coming week and Rick Cupp will be leading our worship, I wanted to offer the lectionary texts for the Fourth Sunday of Advent. In our. readings, we peek in on the angel Gabriel's announcement to Mary that she will bear a son who "will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High." Mary's response?
"Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word."
May we have the willing and obedient heart of Mary as we encounter the living God this week.
Luke 1:26–38
Psalm 89:1–4, 19–26
Romans 16:25–27
2 Samuel 7:1–11, 16
My prayer for us: LORD, Most High, may it be with us this week as You purpose and may Your glory shine through our obedient hearts, just as Mary displayed toward You. We pray in Your name and in the power of Your Spirit. Amen.
