Making Jesus Famous (1/28)

Joshua Gorenflo

The youth minister I had when I was growing up used to articulate his life's ministry with those three words: Make Jesus Famous. It's clear and compelling and resonates in a society where fame is both coveted and currency. And from the Gospel reading for this week, it seems like that's exactly what was happening in Jesus' day as well.

But his fame spread, not because he marketed himself in just the right ways or because he wore the right clothing or obsessed over how many followers he had. His fame grew because he spoke the truth, taught with authority, and demonstrated the power of his teachings through his actions.

As you delve into the Word this week, how does our Gospel reading align with the other texts presented here?

Psalm 111

Deuteronomy 18:15–20

1 Corinthians 8:1–13

Mark 1:21–28

My prayer for us: Lord Jesus, may your fame spread to those around us through the ways we speak, live, work, and play. May our lives be drawn into the power and authority of your teaching and may you transform our hearts because of it. In your name. Amen.
