Love Does: Be Not Afraid

Joshua Gorenflo

When it comes to living a life marked by love, be it of God, to others, or for ourselves, there's one thing that often holds us back from living fully: fear. Maybe we've been burned in the past and so close ourselves off from the possibility of gettin burned again? Maybe we're hesitant to enter into the unknown and prefer to live comfortably, predictably?

But Jesus has invited us to an abundant life, one marked by fullness, adventure, joy, and ever greater experiences of love. How has fear stepped into your life to hold you back from those promises?

We saw this past week how Bob's son, Adam, saw life through a different lens than most. When he encountered a well-worn sailboat, he didn't see something past its prime or all that could go wrong, but saw a chance for adventure. He bought that boat and christened it "The Story" because he knew that his adventures were going to be part of a bigger story than just himself.

It could be that we're past the boat buying stage of our lives. Fair enough. But maybe we can still empower others to go and live a great story, just like we have. In fact, may we be a church of people who support the God-stories of others, help equip them to live a full life in Jesus, and walk alongside them to help them navigate the abundant life we've all been given.

In order to do so, we must first receive God's promise for ourselves. Let us not be afraid, for the Lord our God is with us wherever we go.
