Introducing the Christian Calendar

Every week, whether we realize it or not, we gather with fellow Christians across the world who are reading the same texts as us. This collection of texts is formally called the Lectionary and it is an intentional grouping of Scriptures from the Old Testament, Psalms, Gospels, and New Testament Epistles. By centering our hearts together on these texts, not only do we mark the seasons of faith, we create space for God to form us by His Word and His Spirit.

So, for instance, this coming Sunday is the end of the Christian calendar year in which we will celebrate Christ as our King. The first Sunday of December is the beginning of the Christian calendar and is marked as the First Sunday of Advent, which will prepare our hearts to receive the coming of Jesus at Christmas and anticipate his eventual return.

I want to provide this resource to everyone as a way of marking our time differently, to go through the seasons with Jesus in mind, and to orient our hearts and minds toward the same themes as we live out our days in different ways.

With those goals in mind, I'll be posting a series of Scriptures each week. Let's dive into them together and dwell together in their themes and messages.
