Extending Hospitality to the Young

[hospitality: the practice of welcoming strangers, visitors, or guests into our lives with kindness and generosity]

Theme: Extending hospitality to the young.

Challenge: Go to one of the local schools’ hockey games (or other sport) and cheer on the teams. Be intentional about visiting with the families you sit next to.

Daily Prayer: One way God creates a hospitable spirit within us is through prayer. Throughout the month of October, let us together bring before God these specific prayers for our youth.

  • Sunday: Pray over our church youth, teens and twenty-somethings, that God would guide their lives and shine through their actions. Show them your love by praying with them as well.

  • Monday: Pray for the schools in our community. Ask God to give the teachers wisdom and resilience, and give the students good friends, a desire to learn, and a solid foundation for their future.

  • Tuesday: Pray for those youth in trouble or distress. Whether it is homelessness, an unsafe home environment, poor choices that have led them to prison, or any other heartache, pray God’s comfort and presence for those in need.

  • Wednesday: Pray protection against the epidemic of anxiety and depression plaguing the younger generation. Ask God to shield our youth from endless comparison, online bullying, and a deflated sense of worth.

  • Thursday: Pray that God would provide each young person with a godly mentor who can speak His truth and love into their lives. Ask that God would guide those who invest in young lives to do so faithfully and courageously.

  • Friday: Pray for God’s calling for the youth in our community. Ask God to make a clear path for them to pursue, for peace as they decide where to go and what to do, and for a sense of loving purpose in their decisions.

  • Saturday: Pray for the salvation of our youth, that they might find the God who loves them, come to trust His will for their lives, and dedicate their days to loving Him with all their hearts, as well as their neighbors as themselves.
