[hospitality: the practice of welcoming strangers, visitors, or guests into our lives with kindness and generosity]
Theme: Extending hospitality to our physical neighbors.
Challenge: Invite someone you live close to over for a meal and get to know them better. Or bless them with a written note and a gift, letting them know that you are there if they need.
Daily Prayer: One way God creates a hospitable spirit within us is through prayer. Throughout the month of August, let us together bring before God these specific prayers for our physical neighbors.
Sunday: Pray for your neighborhood and ask God whom you could reach out to this week. Pray a blessing of protection and provision over your neighborhood.
Monday: Reach out to the neighbor God places on your heart. If there is already a relationship, see if they might want to meet up and try to have a deeper conversation with them. If the relationship is not there yet, try to reach out and see if that relationship could be built. Invite them for coffee, for example.
Tuesday: Go for a walk in your neighborhood, praying over the houses you pass. If you meet a neighbor, take some time to have a chat. Either ask to pray for them or pray a blessing over them silently.
Wednesday: If you know of a neighbor who has been going through a rough time, put a card of encouragement in their mailbox, or at their door. Maybe even ring the doorbell to see how they are doing.
Thursday: Pray for all those who have just moved into the area. If someone new moved into a house next to, or near yours, consider bringing them some cookies to welcome them to the Peninsula.
Friday: If you know of any slope workers near you, make a point to reach out to that family and see if the one who stays behind might be open for a lunch, or dinner, while they are home alone. Pray for their family.
Saturday: Think of an old neighbor of yours. Reach out to them and see how they are doing. Pray a blessing over them, whether you are able to get in contact with them or not.
