Extending Hospitality to Friends

Joshua Gorenflo

[hospitality: the practice of welcoming strangers, visitors, or guests into our lives with kindness and generosity]

Theme: Extending hospitality to our friends.

Challenge: Write a letter to a friend expressing your gratitude and appreciation for them in your life. If they live out of town, give them a call and take the opportunity to let them know a specific way God has used them to enrich your life. If they live in town, consider meeting up sometime or inviting them over for a meal.

Daily Prayer: One way God creates a hospitable spirit within us is through prayer. Throughout the month of February, let us together bring before God these specific prayers for our friends, far and near.

  • Sunday: Pray for a friend who is going, through a tough time, asking God to flood their lives with His love and to be present with them in tangible ways.

  • Monday: Thank God for a friend who has recently experienced something good in their lives, asking God to deepen their joy over the blessings He has given them.

  • Tuesday: Think of a friend with whom you have fallen out of touch. Pray that God will wrap His arms around them. Pray for opportunities to reconnect, if it is good that you do so.

  • Wednesday: Bless God for a friend you see often, thanking Him for their presence in your life. Ask God to return the blessing to them that they are to you.

  • Thursday: Ask God to be present with a friend who lives far away or who has been a friend for a long time. Pray His health and life over them and their family.

  • Friday: Pray for any new friend(s) that may have come into your life. Ask God to provide opportunities for those relationships to grow. Or ask that God would bless our lives with a new friend.

  • Saturday: Thank God for the blessing of friendship and how He uses our friends to fill our lives with love, meaning, and joy.
