Children of God (4/14)

Joshua Gorenflo

As we continue in the weeks after Easter, we're still caught up in amazement about what it means for Jesus to be alive again. What possibilities does the resurrection bring? How real is our confession and how do we put flesh on those bones of faith?

This is worked out practically in the Gospel text of Luke. But it also surfaces in the epistle of 1 John. "What we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him." We are living in between was is and what is not yet revealed. By faith we proclaim the truth of who we are, now that Jesus has overcome the Powers of Sin and Death: children of God.

  • Acts 3:12-19

  • 1 John 3:1-7

  • Luke 24:36b-48

  • Psalm 4

My prayer for us: Almighty God, who through Jesus have made us Your children, give us the eyes of faith to hold steady along the road of the cross that You have purposed us to follow. And may we, with confidence, proclaim that what we are is more than what we've been told by others or by the Accuser. For we are your beloved children, cherished by You in every way. For this, we give You praise! Amen.
