We heard last week from Ephesians 1 that before the foundations of the world were set into place, God had in mind that we would be together with Him through Christ. He had in the center of His purposes to adopt us as His children, so that we might be part of His family. And to show us He's not just blowing smoke, He's given us His Holy Spirit as a seal and pledge that He's serious about us.
This means we are chosen by God, even when we feel terribly unloveable. This means we have an inheritance in God's family, even if we don't feel worthy of it. And this means that we live with His Spirit dwelling within us, even when we feel powerless.
So as we dwell on these incredible truths, I invite you to reflect personally and with someone else on these questions:
How does knowing that you were chosen by God since before the world began impact how you think of yourself?
What stands in the way of you receiving the message that you are a son or daughter of God and that this fact gives Him great joy?
Paul writes that God has given us His Spirit as a seal and pledge of His promise. Which of these--seal or pledge--resonates with your heart in this season of life? Why?
What else from our passage in Ephesians impacted you as you heard it?
